Apple Butter with Maple Syrup in the Slow Cooker

This is recipe is based on Slow Cooker Apple Butter {no sugar added} from Family Food on the Table. I just added 1/4 cup of maple syrup and 1 tsp of vanilla at the end. I adjusted the cook times a bit but I also totally forgot about it in the slow cooker (on warm) overnight. I gave it another hour on low (after I remembered) and it came out fine.
Ingredients
- 7-8 medium apples – I used a mix of apples that were on the turn and they worked perfectly
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves ( I actually just used 4 whole cloves)
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ¼ cup water
- 1/4 cup maple syrup (add AFTER it’s done cooking)
- 1 tsp vanilla (again, add at the end).
Instructions
-
Core and roughly chop the apples (peel on.)
-
Put apples in slow cooker and add spices and water.
-
Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
-
Use an immersion blender and blend until smooth.
- Keep slow cooker on low and continue cooking for 2-3 more hours. Stir every 30 minutes to ensure the apple butter doesn’t stick and burn on the bottom of the slow cooker. Cook until the apple has started to thicken and is no longer as liquidy. It will also continue to thicken as it cools.
-
Cool completely and store in the refrigerator.
